Shooting Star

01 CONCEPT

Art and Science

Commissioned by the Hong Kong Science Museum for “Material Tales – The Life of Things”, a touring exhibition from the London Design Museum, “Shooting Star” aims to demonstrate how neon got its colour, through different combinations of glass colour, phosphorus powder and gas!

02 IDEA

Light

🤍 Look at the 4 different shades of white here 👀 and also the ⚡️special lighting effect on tube #7 injected with Krypton gas (not available in Hong Kong!) and made with broken glass from the neon-making process and production waste from the La Praire White Caviar collection ♻️

There are ✌️ tubes coated with the same phosphorus powder using the same glass. However, one is injected with neon (red) gas, and another with Argon (blue) gas.
🔢 Can you guess which are they?

03 SUSTAINABILITY

SECOND LIFE TO NEON

♻️ It has also reused and reassembled 6 neon tubes from “Light as Air” commissioned by La Prairie for the Hong Kong Art Basel 2023.
